In March 2007, SES became a subsidiary of NTR plc. NTR (www.ntr.ie) is a leading international developer and operator in renewable energy and sustainable waste management. NTR recognizes the increasing importance of developing renewable energy resources and recycling facilities and is committed to significantly developing its core businesses. In 2006, NTR committed to investing €2.5 billion in its core businesses within three years.
NTR has a number of core subsidiaries including Greenstar which specializes in recycling-led waste management (www.greenstar-na.com) and Bioverda (www.bioverda.com) which is an international sustainable energy company involved in the production of energy from bioenergy sources as well as biofuels.
NTR has substantial experience in developing renewable energy businesses. In 1999 NTR invested in Airtricity (www.airtricity.com) and oversaw the growth of the company to become a leading wind developer. In October 2007 Airtricity sold the American business unit to the German utility, E.ON for approximately €0.8bn. In February 2008 Airtricity completed the sale of its European business unit to Scottish and Southern Energy for €1.1bn.
